About the Southern Africa Accountability Journalism Project
The Southern Africa Accountability Journalism Project (SA | AJP) seeks to support and strengthen investigative journalism in the southern Africa region. The project is funded by the European Commission, overseen by the Henry Nxumalo Foundation and implemented in partnership with Oxpeckers Centre for Investigative Environmental Journalism and the Viewfinder Centre for Accountability Journalism.
SA | AJP issues periodic calls for proposals from freelance journalists and newsrooms. Successful applicants win grants and are assigned investigative editors to assist them in producing impactful stories or series which seek to advance accountability and the public interest in the region.
Stories produced by the project are published with partner newsrooms and are housed as a single body of work on the Henry Nxumalo Foundation’s website.
The SA | AJP also hosts quarterly training workshops which seek to upskill journalists in the craft of investigative journalism, storytelling, the responsible use of technology and safety.
