Operations Manager
The Henry Nxumalo Foundation (HNF) supports and enables investigative journalism in southern Africa. It gives grants to journalists or newsrooms for projects that serve the public interest and promote accountability by exposing the abuse of power or resources.
HNF is expanding its activities in partnership with the Viewfinder Centre for Accountability Reporting, Oxpeckers Environmental Investigative Centre and IJHub. We will be issuing a series of calls for proposals for investigative projects which we will support with funding, mentorship and training. Our aim is to produce high-quality impactful journalism and build investigative capacity in the region.
For this three-year project, we will be recruiting an Operations Manager, a key position in an exciting project. It could be a full-time or part-time position, or a combination (such as fulltime for the set-up period, and part-time thereafter). The operation will run from a virtual office.
Responsibilities: This person will be responsible for the administrative smooth-running of the project, coordinating the activities of mentors, journalists, trainers, specialist consultants and administration team. Working alongside an editorial coordinator, and reporting to the HNF Executive Director, this person will be responsible for project implementation, budgets and reporting.
The successful candidate must have administrative and financial management skills and experience; be able to lead and work with a highly-skilled team; be tech-savvy and self-motivating. Knowledge of the media and journalism field and experience in running funded projects will be recommendations.
Remuneration is negotiable and competitive in the non-profit sector.

Administrative Assistant

Responsibilities: This person will be required to take on a range of administrative tasks as delegated by the Operations Manager. This will include such things as organising meetings, handling correspondence, keeping records, assisting with event management and gathering financial records.
The successful candidate must have administrative and clerical skills; computer literacy; be able to work well in a team; be prepared to take on a wide range of different tasks, as needed; Knowledge of the media and journalism field will be an advantage.
